A Bahraini policeman was killed on Sunday when armed men launched a terrorist attack on a prison in Bahrain, that resulted in the escape of several convicted inmates, the interior ministry said.
“An armed attack on the Jau reform and rehabilitation centre resulted in the death of policeman Abdul Salam Saif and the escape of a number of inmates convicted of terrorist crimes,” the ministry said in a statement carried by the state Bahrain News Agency, BNA.
A terrorist cell of four to six members, armed with automatic rifles and pistols, was involved in an attack, it said.
A second policeman sustained moderate injuries while confronting the terrorists.
Authorities are searching for the attackers and those who had escaped, the statement added.
